Russell Brand has recently made a commitment to Jesus Christ and has taken the world along for the ride on his journey to know God.

Now when I think about growing up with Russell Brand movies you think “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”, “Bed Time Stories”, and “Get Him to the Greek” just to name a few!!

Hilarious British, quirky, comedian slash rock star! But if you ever heard him speak off camera he has always been very transparent about being an addict and the struggles that have come with that.

We think well that comes with the territory when you are a famous actor and comedian am I right?!?

I think many times as followers of Christ and/or Churchgoers we almost write people like Russell Brand off as LOST!

He must have sold his soul to the devil right? Why would he want Jesus he has everything we all want right? Money! Talent! Fame! Notoriety! What else could he possibly want?

I think many of us who call ourselves Christians have become desensitized, and have either forgotten or have had the blessing of being raised in a Christian home where you did not experience the kind of depravity, hopelessness, emptiness, and loss so many without Jesus have had to live with. Money doesn’t fill the whole, relationship dont fill the hole, drugs don’t fill the hole, careers….. nothing!

That hole just gets deeper, darker, a vortex of hopelessness, a pit of despair.

So when we see someone like Russell Brand find his life in Jesus Christ we must first rejoice!!!

ALL OF HEAVEN REJOICES OVER ONE SINNER

I tell you, in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance. Luke 15:7

But many times what do Christians do? We make excuses, we make up stories, we judge actions and comments as if our own lives depended on it!!

Well he seems very new age? He doesn’t go to a traditional church? He doesn’t act or sound like the way we do? He makes mistakes (Heaven forbid we make mistakes!)

But what we should be doing is

#1 Praying for a new brother/sister in the Lord especially those who are in positions that have the most public visibility.

#2 Encourage our new born brothers/sisters in Christ through comments, stories, emails, phone calls.

#3 Trust the Lord! Let me tell you something the Lord loves Russell Brand! We all have free will to choose and Russell is choosing to seek the Lord and ask the right questions and get around the right people.

Remember the Bible says Keep Asking, Keep Seeking, Keep Knocking! WHY?

Matthew 7:7-12

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds;and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

So friends join with me in praying for Russell Brand and his new found relationship with Jesus Christ!

  1. Lord Jesus please continue to reveal your love and word to Russell through your precious Holy Spirit.
  2. Lord Jesus please continue to send people to Russell who can build him up in his faith and walk alongside him as he grows and learns who he is in Christ Jesus.
  3. Lord Jesus protect Russell by your holy angels and keep him safe as he stands for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  4. Let Russell be bold, confident, and unafraid in continuing to share his faith with the world around him that he would continue to point them right back to Jesus.

Thank you Jesus for Russell’s life and what you are doing in and through him. May you continue to bless him, strengthen him, and enlighten him to all that you have in store.

In Jesus Name!!
